The dissertation grown into a real product: a web app that turns any piano recording — a YouTube link or an upload — into sheet music, MIDI and chords, then teaches the piece step by step. Aimed at pop, rock, game and film music, where sheet music rarely exists.
PianoScribe is where the dissertation grows up. The research showed a machine could learn to read a piano performance; PianoScribe is the work of turning that into something a musician can actually open — a recording goes in, and readable sheet music comes out.
Paste a YouTube link or upload a recording, and it returns engraved sheet music, MIDI and chords. A learning mode then teaches the piece the way a teacher would — section by section, hands separate, hands together, then in time. A free public-domain library (Bach, Chopin, Satie…) means you can start learning without transcribing anything.
The classical repertoire is already well engraved. PianoScribe is aimed at everything that isn't: pop, rock, game and film music — the pieces people most want to learn, and the ones least likely to have sheet music at all. It's an active, in-progress project.
